- The English sheepdog in Lynn Johnston's syndicated comic strip "For Better or Worse" is named after Farley.
- Many of Farley's books have been translated into 26 languages.
- He was a great grand-nephew of Ontario premier Sir Oliver Mowat and his father Angus fought in World War I at Vimy Ridge.
- A public school in Ottawa is named after him.
- In 1977 he won the Curran Award for his contributions to understanding wolves, a product of his best-known work "Never Cry Wolf".
