Moving the Farley Mowat Boat Roofed House is a monumental task. We are relocating the structure to create a public and permanent tribute to one of Canada's greatest literary figures, one of Port Hope's most distinguished/celebrated/notorious residents. We are calling on the public to make financial contributions to assist with the costs associated with the relocation of this iconic structure...

The Municipality of Port Hope has generously donated the land for the new permanent boat house locale and will also provide manpower and machines to help in the dismantling and reconstruction. The Parks and Recreation staff is planning to provide a number of family fun activities for the Thanksgiving Weekend. Our friends at the Port Hope Library will also have fun and informative Farley themed events. Our group of volunteers will work to ensure the move goes as planned and on schedule. And many of our merchants will provide in kind goods and services to support this once in a life time endeavour.

We are seeking cash donations to assist with the costs associated with the relocation and celebration of this iconic structure. The community is solidly behind us as witnessed by the almost $12,000 of in-kind contributions, cash donations and pledges to date. We need approximately an additional $10,000 in cash donations to meet our costs. If we are so fortunate as to exceed our goals, excess funds will be used to enhance the events programming or possibly to seed an annual Canadian Arts and Literature themed event.

The Committee will turn the Saturday and Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend into a fun community event. We want to encourage the participation of as many volunteers as possible to help with the move and to help with events. The Committee is planning an engaging series of activities for children and adults on the move weekend.

Tax receipts will be issued for cash donations. The Municipality of Port Hope is handling this function. Donations may be made in person at the Town Hall by cheque, cash or by mail as follows:
